Islam is a highly influential and wide spread monotheistic religion(a religion that believes in only one God). The God of Islam is called Allah(God), by Muslims. Allah has all control of the universe and is one and only. The main book or scripture of Islam is the Koran, which is rather like the Christian Bible. But what did I learn of this religion from the Koran selections I read?
There are two main things that I learned of this religion from the Koran selection I read which are all a part of Surah 47(basically like a chapter). The first thing that I learned was in the passage 47:37: The life of this world is but a sport and a pastime, and if you believe and be righteous, HE will give you your rewards, and will not ask of your wealth. There is probably more meaning to this passage, but I am only stating what I believe it means, which is that Islam teaches a man’s righteousness on Earth will gain him earthly wealth. Which is rather unlike what Christianity states on righteousness, which is that righteousness will bring forth earthly poverty.
The second thing I learned about Islam from the Koran selections I have read, is in the passage 47:3: But as for those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in that which has been revealed to Muhammad – and it is the truth from their Lord – HE removes from them their sins and sets right their affairs. Again I am only stating what I believe it means, which is that when someone believes in Allah and does righteous deeds, Allah will remove them of their previous sins. Which is different to Christianity, because a person must repent their sins or wrongdoings to be free from them in the Christian belief, in other words you cannot be free of your sins in Christianity by just becoming a Christian.
Islam is one of the largest followed religion’s today, over a billion people are Muslim around the world. Having knowledge and being aware of other religion’s like Islam is very important in understanding history and the belief’s and customs of other people. The two things I learned of Islam from the Koran selections I read were in the Koran passages, 47:37 and 47:3
