Week One of Astronomy

The first week of this astronomy section I learned about the history of astronomy and telescopes.

The History of Telescopes

The first telescope ever made was made in 1609, by a man named Galileo Galilei; this telescope was named “far seeing” when it’s name is translated into English. The telescope was a refractive telescope; which means that the telescope has an objective lens on one end and an eyepiece on the other.

The first telescope’s objective lens was convex, and the eyepiece was concave. This was problematic because the way the objective lens channels colors creates a “rainbow halo”, this causes a distorted view when looking through the telescope. This problem is known as chromatic aberration. To help prevent this problem the people who built the telescopes would make the telescopes bigger and longer, some of these long telescopes were up to one hundred feet long!

Eventually people began to build the telescope’s objective lens in a way that used the convex and concave lenses together, fixing the issue chromatic aberration, and making the colors more focused. This way of building the objective lens is known as “achromatic doublet”.

But before achromatic doublet was around to fix the problem of chromatic aberration. Sir Issac Newton got so frustrated when trying to fix the refractive telescope that he decided that the problem of chromatic aberration was unfixable, so he created a different kind of telescope. The telescope he made was reflective, which meant that it used mirrors instead of the regular lenses. This made it easier to see through since the mirrors reflects the light toward the eye.

History of Astronomy

The field of Astronomy began thanks to Greek and Roman philosophers and scientists, one of the first was Ptolemy. He created a geometric theory on the way the planets including the sun moved around the earth. Frankly his theory was incorrect, but the Catholic Church still used it as the official doctrine.

This theory was proven incorrect by an astronomer named Nicolas Copernicus in 1543, who created the heliocentric theory (which is the theory of how the planets and the earth included move around the sun), in a book that was published the same year he died.

Over the years the heliocentric theory was proven to be the correct one out of the two theories.

What Am I Willing to Settle For One Year From Now

One year from now I am willing to settle being finished with this business course. I may be moving in a year so my life is a little unpredictable, but if I am not moving it will be easier to predict. If I do move, it may be in the same town I live in or a different one close by, I will probably be working for my father by then, also I will have set up my geology blog which supports my calling. If I do not move, my life will be a little different, I will probably be working at a local town business part time, my father’s business part time, and set up a geology blog which like I said supports my calling.

What Am I Willing to Settle For My 18th Birthday

On my 18th birthday I am willing to settle being finished with high school, taking clep exams, working for my father, and managing my geology blog full time. For my calling I would work on getting forward on being a geologist and studying as much as I can to become one.

What Am I Willing to Settle For My 25th Birthday

By this point I am willing to settle that I am now a geologist, I will be working for my father full time now, and having at least two writers for my geology blog. For my calling I will most likely have met someone who I plan on living with for the rest of my life, and also thinking of starting a family with this person.

How Can The Strategy of Going The Extra Mile Help Me Attain These Goals?

The strategy of going the extra mile is something that all successful people in business do. Going the extra mile is just doing more than what is required; this is very important because, if you put in more effort into something, the better your outcomes will become.

The more effort I put into my study of geology books before actually starting my geology blog, will help me put good and true information on the site. Putting a lot of effort studying these books and working with my geology site will make it easier for me to pass and understand the real geology classes I will be doing in the future.

Going that extra mile sounds like a pain at first in the short run, but it is very worth it in the long run, especially when you are achieving your goals, and becoming successful thanks to this method.

Most people can do simple tasks and have a job. But the people who put effort in the things they do will be more successful than the people who don’t put in any effort.

This method applies to all careers, jobs, and even sports careers. The more effort you put into something the better the outcome in the end.

My Past Income And What My Future Income Might Look Like

This report is about my past income and what I think my future income might look like.

My Past Income

I began saving up money since I was seven years old, it started when my grandmother gave me twenty dollars for a gift and told me that if I saved up from then on I would have much more than twenty dollars, and that inspired me to save up, and I did; for the next five years I saved up doing extra chores, watching my siblings out of the house, birthday money, and money gifts from my grandparents, and I saved up to eight- hundred and fifty dollars, and I was only twelve.

Since I had a pretty decent some of money I wanted to put it into a bank at first until I first saw a gold coin, a real gold coin, and I decided that, that was something I wanted to invest in, the coin was my Dad’s and I told him that I wanted to by it, and how much money I had. So he and I made a deal, since the gold coin’s value was much higher than the amount of money I had, he told me that he would charge me all my money. It was a tough decision, and some may say that it was stupied choice, but I’m happy that I did buy it since gold is a good investment, and never goes out of value.

That was the first time I really spent my money and invested it.

After that twelve to thirteen, I worked hard doing extra chores, etc, but when I was thirteen almost fourteen I decided to get a real job. I began working at a family friend’s business, twice a week, it does not seem like a start but I am a busy person with school and other activities so it was a start for me. When I got my job I decided to start really saving money again, and now combined with the value of the gold coin I probably have a net worth of almost two thousand.

My Future Income

My future income is tricky to determine since I don’t know what kind of job/jobs I will have or if I may have my own business. But I do know that I will improve my abilities with money and making it so I believe I will make more money than I do now.

This is my essay on my past income and what I think my future income will be.

Elizabeth The 1st

Elizabeth 1st, was a very important figure in English history. She was queen of England from 1558-1603.

Early Life

Elizabeth was the daughter of Anne Boylan who was the second wife of Elizabeth’s father, King Henry the 8th, this meant she was a princess. She was born in Greenwich England, in September 7th, 1533.

Her mother was charged with the crime of adultery from her father, and was executed, when Elizabeth was only two years old! These charges were probably false, since Henry was displeased with Anne since she did not bear him a son, for an heir .

After this, Elizabeth and her older half sister Mary (Mary was the daughter of Henry and his first wife),were announced as illegitimate children, and were cut off from the line of heirs to the English throne. This favored her younger half brother, Edward, who was the son of Henry and his third wife Jane Seymor.

Even though Elizabeth was considered an illegitimate child she still was raised quite well; she lived with a governess, and got a pretty good education, excelling in the music and language arts.

After her father’s death in 1547, her younger brother Edward became King. Her brother’s time as King did not last for long; Edward had always been very weak in health, his bad health eventually caught up to him and he died in 1553. His death caused much political turmoil since Edward had left no heirs of his own but had chosen his cousin Lady Jane Grey, who was a devoted Protestant, instead of his oldest half sister Mary who was a devoted Catholic. This was because Edward was a Protestant, and he did not want Mary to rule since she would probably make England a Catholic nation.

But Mary soon gained popularity with the English people, and after only nine days of ruling Jane was unseated from the English throne and was thrown into prison, and Mary was crowned queen. This was not good for Elizabeth since she was a Protestant; to make matters worse for her, plans of a rebellion against Mary was uncovered in 1554. This plan contained details, that if the rebellion succeeded Elizabeth would be crowned queen. Right after this Elizabeth was thrown into prison, even though she denied that she had anything to do with this rebellion. And she was soon released, but she was never fully free because she was under close watch.

Her Time As Queen

In 1558 Mary died, leaving no heir of her own, Elizabeth became queen. In the beginning it was not exactly easy for Elizabeth, Mary had died when a lot of political and religious issues were going on, like a war between England and France, and the increasing tension between Protestants and Catholics.

Elizabeth took action right away on these issues, and these issues soon ended, but others arose throughout her reign such as the tension between Spain and England, and then there were attempts to remove her off the throne, the greatest effort to remove her came from Mary Queen of Scots, who was Elizabeth’s cousin. In 1567 in got so out of hand that Elizabeth had to imprison Mary. Mary was executed in 1587 for treason.

Even with all these issues during her reign she proved to be a very good and just ruler, and stood strong against many suitors. She was never married and is often referred to as the “virgin queen”.

Later Years And Death

Near the end of her reign and death, England was in troubled times, there were food shortages since the crops were failing in Ireland and many rebellions and riots. Her power began to fade, but she remained close and supportive to the citizens.

Elizabeth died on March 24th, 1603.

Elizabeth was remembered well even though the end of her reign was not exactly the best; she was a stable ruler most of her long reign, and was a great problem solver. Her reign is often said to have been the “Golden Age”, since creativity and art bloomed thanks to her.

She loves a good laugh, and a funny story,

I’m grateful she’s my granny.

Her Laugh carries across the room,

I’m grateful she’s my granny.
